Be Nice…Treat The Ice

Pick up your FREE de-icing material.

Residents can now pick up a mixture of salt and sand for FREE to maintain their sidewalks and their neighbours sidewalks during winter.
Sidewalk winter maintenance is prioritized, based on pedestrian traffic volume and proximity to high use facilities such as schools, hospitals, and public buildings. While it can take the City up to five days to clear all of the sidewalks, it can take longer to treat icy conditions on residential sidewalks.

The material provided by the City is a 50/50 mixture of salt and sand that will produce improved traction for walking and keep sidewalks safe.

This program is free for all homeowners, occupants and landlords of residential properties in Guelph to help make our sidewalks even safer this winter.

Pick up your free de-icing material, providing you bring your own hand carried container, from our Operations Department at 45 Municipal Street or from one of the sand boxes temporarily installed across the city this winter.

The program runs from November to April with no limit to the number of visits and the size of the hand carried container.

Be a good neighbour, and look out for your neighbourhood by keeping your sidewalks free from icy conditions.
