Guelph, ON

Event Description

The Guelph Black Heritage Society (GBHS) invites all friends and families to join us at the Emancipation Day Jamboree at Heritage Hall.

The GBHS presents an afternoon of activities to celebrate Emancipation Day which is observed to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people of African descent.

Throughout the afternoon enjoy live music, dance, cultural foods, face painting, games and more! The event starts at 2pm and will go to approximately 7pm. Suggested donation $5 per person.

Proceeds from the Emancipation Day Jamboree will go towards the ongoing Rampin’ it Up! Campaign to make Heritage Hall accessible. Heritage Hall, located at 83 Essex Street, was formerly known as the British Methodist Episcopal Church, a significant destination on the 19th century “Underground Railroad” slave escape route. Since 2011, the Guelph Black Heritage Society has striven to create a cultural, historical and social community centre at Heritage Hall. Community rentals help support the hall. Greater access will ramp up that support and enhance the versatility of Heritage Hall.
