Event Description

Ever wonder about the future of the closed Ontario Reformatory in Guelph on York Rd?
Yorklands Green Hub wants to establish a community environmental centre on 70 acres
including the superintendent’s house.

The focus on building sustainable communities through local food stimulus, water protection
and renewable energies on this heritage site could also be a major tourist destination as
citizens of all ages enjoy varied activities on this nature-rich landscape of meadows, wetlands,
streams and ponds.

Join us for a tree walk on October 1st for Canada’s Forestry Week at the Guelph Correctional Centre. We will identify native species along the trails and learn about the connection of trees to water, wetlands
and ecological systems in this part of our Grand River Watershed. 2:00 to 3:30 pm

Tree diversity is critical for sustainable urban forests and healthy communities.
Come out and learn how to identify tree species and see what you can plant in your own yard.

Outdoor event, dress for the weather and for a grassy path.
Start from 785 York Rd (near Cityview Dr) on Bus Route #4
No parking on site. Some parking on York Rd.
